A side by side comparison to see if The Undertaker and Snooze Asshole are one in the same but different ends of the spectrum, or if they are two seperate entities one a more legit version then the other. Prompted by Dorothy's Trends and Fads pt.2 post and the inane babble of fools who think The American Bad Ass is an Asstin rip off. I am fully aware that both Mark Callaway and Steve Williams play these CHARACTERS on TV. I am aware that certain angles and stories are more fitting to some wrestlers then they are to another. I also comprehend that if their characters are in anyway similar to their actual personalites, that what is seen in the ring is manigifed by 1000x for the sake of entertainment. I am merely suspending my disbleief for a moment to prove the point. Let the examination begin with the definition of Bad Ass. 1.Difficult to deal with. Is Asstin difficult to deal with? Yes. The same way a spoiled child is. He doesn't get his way, so he throws temper tantrums. He bitches and whines. Sometimes when a child is having a tantrum, they'll hit the person they are mad at. Asstin gives them a "stunner" His reasoning for that? Because he can or wants to. That is not a reason. He wouldn't do it, nor would those that do things like that in real life, if he knew he could not get away with it. In this case, his popularity let's him get away with it. Is committing assault what makes him tough or bad? Let me be the first to say to any Asstin marks, they would feel very different if someone like The Texas Drunk Digrace did something like that to them for the same reason. He is the same way during a match. Much like an over indulged child, he doesn't want to play right. Asstin cheats 99.9% of the time. Again behaving like an obnoxious brat he plays childish pranks to push people's buttons. Things like spraying people with beer, or vandalizing their vehicles and property. For some reason I doubt that is what the ones responsible for this definition had in mind when they penned the first meaning. Is The Undertaker difficult to deal with? Yes, the way a bad ass is supposed to be. No matter what has been done by who to knock off The Phenom, he is always right back in their face. He's not going to be bullied. He's not going to be told what to do. And so on. The second meaning of Badd Ass: Distinctively tough or powerful. One question what has Asstin done that is tough? Let alone something so tough that makes him stand out? Nothing. Tough as it pertains to wrestling are those who pay their dues, then when they make it continue to work like they are still paying them. Asstin payed his dues, but by the time he got to WCW, it was painfully obvious he was not LEGIT superstar material. But wait Deadman Asstin mark may say, he is a superstar. No he's not. He's a little tin god. A disposable hero. REAL superstars carve out their own nitches with their overall talent. They are not manufactured by creative staffs to the very last detail like the boy groups in pop music. They work through injuries both minor and severe, they don't pitch fits with management when they don't get their way, they don't refuse to work with certain people for no reason, they don't weasel out of commitments because they don't like what they were asked to do. The list goes on. According to my desciption, Asstin is far from tough. Who is? I'll tell ya one more time. The Undertaker. As far as matches go, Asstin has not been in a tough match. So what Asstin got up after he was dropped on his head by Owen Hart. It took awhile and his motivation was fear of never walking again. It was an accident, not a planned part of the match. Let's see UT has done the Boiler Room Brawl, Hell in a Cell 1&2, The Inferno match, Buried Alive 1&2. He puts forth maxium effort in even the smallest match. Powerful. Well, Loud Mouth Bitch Often can't even touch The Taker there. The rest of meaning 2 reads "So exceptional as to be intimidating." We will start with The American Bad Ass here. A 10 year legacy of hard fought battles. Amazing athleticism for a man near 7' and weighing 330LBS has lead to one thing from his opposition. Fear. They look like they are ready to shit their pants when Taker comes around. Even in the age of "attitude" when someone is told they have to face UT, they want out. They know they can't beat him fair, but don't want to walk away losers. The only means to get by Taker, cheating. Those who are considered better then Taker (by marks of course)like Asstin and Crock have cheated their way to victory. That defination totally fits The Undertaker. Asstin achieves intimidation by first of all picking somone he knows wil be scared. Then he gets up in their face, yells at them, threatens them, etc. But little is done to back any of this up. His popularity, and the WWF's lust for money and ratings protect him from the wrath of those he pissed off. His status in the WWF gives him leverage to refuse to work a program with some of the people he has upset. Many of these people he'd HAVE to work with if he did not become so popular. Actually, he wouldn't because he would have been gone from the WWF by now. The only part of the Bad Ass defination that fits Asstin is belligerant. Which means warlike, but has an uncivilized ignorant conotation. Here are some random comparisons: The foul mouth, the finger flipping, the beer guzzling are all the sterotypical actions of a tough guy or Bad Ass. They are what the public thinks one such person would do. Why does he do it? So he comes of as that tough SOB. But really, not so tough people drink like fishes, flip the bird, and swear. What does Taker have to do to come off as a tough SOB? He just stands there. The point gets across. Asstin bobs his head from side to side, takes long quick strides, jacks his jaw all the way to the ring and beyond. He expends more energy trying to act tough then he does wrestling. In his routine, he gives the impression to the easily intimidated that he is a bad man and you should stay away or face the consequences. But when someone doesn't buy into, like UT, Asstin becomes quite. Remember when Asstin took his investigation to UT's locker room on Raw last week? The Phenom knew was he was there and told him to not even bother. Asstin didn't have as much to say to UT as he did to everyone else. Asstin also goes into shock when someone sees right through his phony tough act. The first time Asstin ever saw Taker's fist come at his face, his look totally changed. During their 98-99 fued, Asstin showed fear when Taker was present. To cover it up he went right back to his antics. Asstin was even put off to get yet another taste of his own medicine when The Undertaker flipped him off. Taker simply walks, or rides to the ring. Says nothing. Does nothing else by walk or ride. Asstin is no nonsense. That is a joke if I have ever heard one. All his little tricks to get back and Vince McMahon, his long winded pointless speeches, his vest, poster boy for everything, commercial sell out, the sterotypical stuff I spoke of, and a host of other things spell nonsense. The Undertaker on the other hand makes a short to the point statements or flat out kicks the other guys ass. UT rarely is used to sell anything, hardly deviates to do projects outside of the WWF, doesn't have any extra trappings to his persona, doesn't have rhinsetones or anything bright on his new attire, in the old days wicked mind games reigned. Another point for Taker. Asstin is the average guy who does things other average people only dream of. At first, true. Now, that has gone so overboard, that Asstin has become one of those "gimmicky" types of wrestlers that aren't supposed to exist anymore. Now that the whole darkness concept has been ommited from The Undertaker, he is what SA isn't more. The average hard working guy who gives and gives only to get screwed. Asstin is anti authority. WRONG! Like those kids on talk shows, all he needs is to be confronted by the right authority. Taker if ever given a push could be that authority. UT has beaten, humiliated, broken him down at times. He is a bit more subdued when The American Bad Ass is about. Sure he does his whole routine when The Undertaker is not in the building or is standing a couple hundred feet away. All Taker needs is that one push to finish the job. Talk about anti authority. While Asstin pushes it's buttons, it won't even approach The Undertaker. Vince for years would never go near The Undertaker. He sent people after him. Recall UT's hand picked champions speech from 97. Once McMahon got the grapefruits to go near UT, he had back up in the from either the Corporation or more cops then it took to "arrest" Asstin. The only time he was alone with Taker, Vince didn't have much to say to his face, only his back. We know what happened to Vince's arm when Taker turned around to see what Vince was doing. Mick Foley was the most recent authority to step off from Taker. While Foley is so irate with Asstin, he may have to take his fury to the ring. Asstin brings his problems on to himself as a result of his behavior. I am sure there are several other things that could be said, but the basics are covered here. It looks as if The Undertaker is the tough SOB. The REAL "Stone Cold," The true Bad Ass. While Asstin all hype. The marks can say UT is an SA rip off, but sorry, most of the stuff Taker was doing first. Asstin is trying to prove he's tough, while UT doesn't have to. Everyone just knows. The rest of my toughts on this are in my previous Last Ride.
